California’s children are facing a serious threat to their dental health.

California’s children are facing a serious threat to their dental health.

Governor Newsom’s proposed budget includes an $861 million cut to Medi-Cal Dental, including the elimination of Proposition 56 funding. These cuts jeopardize access to dental care and appointments — making it harder for families to access essential care and putting millions of kids at risk.

Take Action: Sign the Petition to Protect Kids’ Dental Care

Your voice matters — thank you for standing up for California’s kids.

Why This Matters

  • Nearly half of California children rely on Medi-Cal Dental for checkups, cleanings, and care.
  • In 10 counties, there are no Medi-Cal Dental providers at all — and cuts will only make this worse.
  • When families lose access to preventive care, dental issues turn into emergencies — costing up to $2,453 per ER visit.
  • Restoring Proposition 56 funding would keep nearly 13,000 dentists in the Medi-Cal network and preserve $529 million in federal matching dollars.

Your Child’s Benefits Aren’t Changing — Yet

Right now, children still have full Medi-Cal dental coverage, and our office proudly continues to serve Medi-Cal families. But if these cuts are approved, the long-term impact will be fewer providers, longer wait times, and reduced access for those who need care most.
